Newborn Prep Guide
Congratulations on your growing family!
Thank you for choosing Family Photos by TM to capture this incredibly special time in your lives. Newborn sessions are designed to be calm, unhurried, and centered around your baby’s comfort. This guide will help you feel prepared, confident, and relaxed on the day of your session.
Our goal is simple: to create beautiful, timeless images while ensuring your baby’s safety and comfort every step of the way. Every image is crafted with the intention of becoming a tangible keepsake — artwork meant to be held, displayed, and passed down for generations.
Before Your Session
Newborn sessions are typically scheduled within the first 7–14 days after birth, when babies are sleepiest and most easily posed. If your baby arrives earlier or later than expected, we will adjust your session accordingly.
Please don’t worry if your baby is fussier than expected or needs frequent breaks. Every newborn is different, and your session is planned with flexibility in mind.

What to bring

To help the session flow smoothly, please bring:
- Diapers and wipes
- Extra bottles and/or formula if applicable
- A pacifier (even if baby doesn’t regularly use one)
- Any sentimental items you’d like included (blankets, heirlooms, name blocks, etc.)
- Extra clothing for parents, just in case
Everything else — wraps, props, backdrops, and accessories — will be provided by the studio.

Stunning memories

Dressing Your Baby

Please dress your baby in a loose, easy-to-remove outfit when you arrive. Front-zip or snap pajamas are ideal, as they minimize disruption during transitions.
Avoid tight clothing, socks, or diapers that may leave marks on baby’s skin. If possible, remove socks and mittens about 30 minutes before your session.
What Parents Should Wear
We recommend neutral, timeless tones such as:
- Cream, beige, gray, soft pastels, or earth tones
- Simple textures and minimal patterns
- Avoid logos, bold graphics, or busy prints. The focus should remain on connection, emotion, and your new baby — details that shine most when printed as fine art for your home.

Feeding & Sleep Tips

A well-fed baby is a happy baby. Newborns often feed more frequently during sessions due to warmth, movement, and stimulation — this is completely normal.
Please plan to feed your baby right before leaving home, and again upon arrival if needed
Feeding breaks are always encouraged and never rushed
Expect the session to last 2–3 hours, allowing plenty of time for soothing, feeding, and cuddling
For Nursing Parents
Some parents notice that certain foods can occasionally affect their baby’s digestion. Every baby is different, so there’s no universal rule. If you have concerns, consult your pediatrician and do what feels best for you and your baby.

Keeping Baby Comfortable
To help encourage sleep:
- Try to keep baby awake for 60–90 minutes before arrival
- A warm, calm environment will be maintained in the studio
- White noise and gentle soothing techniques are used throughout the session
If your baby needs to be held, rocked, or comforted at any time, that’s perfectly okay. Parents are always welcome to step in if needed.

Safety & Studio Environment
Your baby’s safety is our top priority. All poses are done with care, experience, and attention to baby’s comfort. Composite techniques are used when necessary to ensure safety at all times.
The studio is thoroughly cleaned and sanitized before each newborn session.
What to Expect on Session Day
Sessions are relaxed and baby-led
Breaks are built into the timeline
Patience is key — there is no rush
Please arrive on time so we can maximize your session without stress.
Newborn sessions are about more than photos — they’re about preserving a moment that passes far too quickly. Printed artwork and albums allow these fleeting details to live on far beyond the digital screen, becoming part of your family’s story. Come prepared, but most importantly, come ready to relax and enjoy the experience.
If you have any questions before your session, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re honored to be part of your family’s story.

That’s okay! Awake and alert images can be just as beautiful and meaningful.
What if we’re running late?
Please let us know as soon as possible so we can adjust accordingly.
Can siblings be included?
Yes! Please let us know during your consultation if you are interested in adding siblings. We typically photograph siblings first so they can relax afterward.
